Life has a way of adding layers to your life – layers that build themselves over who you are at your very core. Sometimes these layers are good and contribute positively to who you become, sometimes they do not. Happiness is a decision. Each one of us has to decide to enjoy our lives today and make the most of what we’ve got, or will we miss the present in hopes of a better future!
If you ask an unhappy person why they are in such a condition, the unhappy person will tell you it is because of a bad relationship, or an awful event in their life. But consider this, happiness or unhappiness is a feeling inside of you that you can change with a different thought. Your brain releases a chemical with each new thought. When you allow people, things or circumstances to influence you give up the control and decision to be happy.
While we’re waiting for a letter from a lover we might miss the joy of a call from a friend. If we dedicate all our energy to make a living, we might miss the laughter of our children and the importance of family. The Universe is trying to tell us to live in the present moment and create the life we want today, by carefully choosing your thoughts and emotions. If we tell ourselves that this certain thing has to happen before we can be happy, then our happiness will always be at the mercy of our circumstances.
I am going to assume your goal is to be happy. In the midst of whatever strong, negative emotion you find yourself in this week let me encourage you to:
• Choose a different feeling other than the strong negative emotion that instinctively rises up inside you.
• Be prepared to identify and take necessary steps to change.
• Change your self-talk to an inner conversation that will change the strong negative feelings.
• Finally, I am going to ask you to plan your day before it starts. Spend time visualizing yourself happy.
Happiness is a decision. Each one of us has to decide to enjoy our lives today and make the most of what we’ve got, or will we miss the present in hopes of a better future!
Tomorrow I will ask you some questions to help you get in touch with your true self.
